North Sutor

North Sutor represents the northern side of the narrow entrance to the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, rising to 154m (505 feet). An artillery battery was built high above the sea in 1913 to protect the naval base at Invergordon. Anti-aircraft guns were added during the Second World and the defences were not decommissioned until 1956. The concrete remains of these batteries, together with accommodation blocks, observation posts, searchlight positions and other associated structures remain. There are protected as a scheduled monument.
