Esha Ness

A substantial and remote peninsula on the west coast of the Northmavine district of the Shetland Mainland, Esha Ness is located 3 miles (5 km) west northwest of Hillswick and 25 miles (40 km) north northwest of Lerwick. Noted for its rugged coastal scenery, Esha Ness supports a number of small crofting settlements including Tangwick, Braehoulland and West Heogaland. It is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest owing to its remarkable geology and is also a National Scenic Area. An unusual square lighthouse was built above the cliffs on the South Head of Calder's Geo by Charles and David Stevenson in 1929.
