An area of Glasgow, located near the centre of Springburn, that was synonymous with railways. It was here that the workshops for the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway Company established their workshops in 1842. For the next 125 years, the workshops here produced rolling stock for the rail network across Britain and beyond.
In 2005, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde opened the biggest medical decontamination unit in Europe within Cowlairs Industrial Estate, which cleans surgical instruments used in hospitals across the region.
