Myres Hill

A summit surrounded by plantation forest in the SE of East Renfrewshire, Myres Hill rises to 332m (1089 feet) 2 miles (3 km) west of Corse Hill and 3 miles (5 km) south of Eaglesham. The hill is the source of the Myres Burn. At its summit is the National Wind Energy Centre, a wind turbine research and test facility operated since the 1980s by the National Engineering Laboratory, which is located 6 miles (10 km) to the northeast in East Kilbride. Every shape and size of small wind turbine up to 50 kW output can be tested here on one of 18 test pads, evaluating designs, performance and noise. A small permanent wind farm is also located here and the entire hill is surrounded by the enormous Whitelee Wind Farm.
