Fairburn Tower

A ruined five-storey tower in Easter Ross, Highland Council Area, Fairburn Tower overlooks the River Orrin, just over 2 miles (3 km) southeast of Contin. It was built in the mid-16th century as a stronghold of the Mackenzies. The Brahan Seer foretold the demise of the Mackenzies of Fairburn and the abandoning of the tower, adding that a cow would give birth to a calf in the uppermost chamber. This prophesy was fulfilled.
