The smaller of St Andrews' two sandy beaches, the East Sands lie a half-mile (0.8 km) east southeast of the town centre and are separated from the West Sands by a mile (1.6 km) of rocky coastline. The Kinness Burn enters the North Sea at the northern end of the beach, which is also the location of St Andrews Harbour.
