Built by the Ruthven family in the 15th Century, Huntingtower Castle is located in Huntingtower, 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Perth in Perth and Kinross. Comprising two separate towers, the original Ruthven Castle was the eastern tower, the western tower being an early 16th century construction. An infill building adjoining the two was built in the 17th century. Confiscated by the Crown in 1600 following the Gowrie Conspiracy, when the name Ruthven was proscribed, the Castle passed into the hands of the Murray family in 1663, who used this as their residence over Blair Castle until it was abandoned in the late 18th century.
The castle is now in the care of Historic Environment Scotland. A protected colony of Pipistrelle and Long-Eared bats roost above one of its windows.
