The Birnie Kirk

Once one of the seats of the Bishops of Moray, Birnie Kirk is one of the oldest places of worship in Moray. It is situated on a prominent mound, 2 miles (3 km) south of Elgin on a side road and in its kirkyard is a Pictish stone on which is carved the images of an eagle, a notched rectangle and a Z-rod. Restored by A. Marshall Mackenzie in 1891, the church is dedicated to St Brendan.
