Coire Ardair

A substantial corrie on the northeast slopes of Creag Meagaidh to the north of Glen Spean and Loch Laggan, Coire Ardair lies between the lofty summits of Stob Poite Coire Ardair and Puist Coire Ardair. Surrounded by exceptionally high corrie-walls, Lochan a' Choire lies within the corrie. A Sea-King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth crashed here on 28th January 1989 while engaged in a training exercise with the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team. The cause was engine failure in difficult wind conditions, but the crew and passengers escaped with only minor injuries.
