Sound of Bute

An broad arm of the sea which separates the Kintyre peninsula and Isle of Arran from the Isle of Bute on the W coast of Scotland. The Sound of Bute opens from the Kyles of Bute and Loch Fyne in the north. The Admiralty created a measured mile between Bute and Arran c.1928, to allow speed trials of ships to be undertaken.
