A sandbank in the Solway Firth, Barnhourie (or Barnhourie Sands) lies just south of the Mersehead Sands on the coast of Dumfries and Galloway, to the south of Dumfries. Tradition suggest that Barnhourie is home to a mermaid, who fell in love with a young seaman and rescued him when his ship ran aground on the sandbank.
