The Duke's Road

A 4 mile (6 km) stretch of road over the hills from Aberfoyle to the Trossachs in Stirling Council Area has been known for nearly two centuries as the 'Duke's Road'. In the early 19th Century, after the Trossachs had been popularised by writers and poets such as Sir Walter Scott and William Wordsworth, the Duke of Montrose decided to build a road, the so-called 'Duke's Road', that would provide easier access from the south for tourists.
