Inchmahome

The largest of the two islands in the Lake of Menteith, Stirling Council Area, the wooded Inchmahome is dominated by the ruins of a priory founded in 1238 by Walter Comyn, Earl of Menteith. The noted aristocrat, author and horseman, Robert Cunninghame Graham (1852 - 1936) is buried on the island. The exotic trees, flowers and bushes that adorn the island were probably planted by the Earls of Menteith who created a pleasure ground on the island which can be approached by boat from Port of Menteith.
