Bawsinch Nature Reserve

Lying immediately to the south of Duddingston Loch in Edinburgh is the Bawsinch Nature Reserve, managed and partially owned by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. Some 26 ha (64 acres) in size, the reserve was an industrial wasteland, associated with the 'Innocent Railway' and a nearby brewery. It is now designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and includes trees and scrub, together with several small ponds. Hides managed by the trust provide excellent bird-watching over Duddingston Loch.
