The Roman Bath House

Situated within Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, the Roman Bath House was built at the western end of the Antonine Wall within the compounds of a Roman Fort which was occupied between 142 AD and 165 AD. The ruins, which were discovered in 1973, are of the entire building and its internal layout. The remains of a changing-room, a cold room, and cold plunge bath, two warming rooms, a hot dry room, or sweatbath, and a hot room can all be seen. The Romans realised that cleanliness reduced the incidence of disease and their bath-houses also provided a social function.

Nearby at Hillfoot lie the remains of the Antonine Wall.
