Muiravonside Country Park

A country park straddling the border of West Lothian and Falkirk Council areas, Muiravonside lies on the north bank of the River Avon, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Linlithgow. Covering an area of 69 ha (170 acres), it comprises gardens, woodland and parkland, the latter including a disused mine shaft. Newparks Farm is open to the public and is stocked with rare breeds and exotic animals and birds.

There is a Visitor Centre within the old Home Farm, and the footings of the former Muiravonside House lie below, overlooking the River Avon. Muiravonside House was a modest U-plan mansion that dated from the 17th C. but, having fallen into ruin, was demolished in the 1970s. Formerly the estate of the Stirling family of Falkirk, the park is now owned and managed by Falkirk Council.

The park served as the backdrop to the dramatic Battle of Prestonpans in the American fantasy television series Outlander (2016).
