Island Macaskin

(Eilean Macaskin; Macaskin Island)

The long Island Macaskin (Eilean Macaskin) lies at the entrance to Loch Craignish in Argyll and Bute. Covering an area of 65.2 ha (161 acres), this island has been uninhabited since the late 19th Century except for the sheep that graze its eastern side. Its western side is dominated by steep slopes which descend from the island's central ridge, which reaches a height of 65m (213 feet). Strips on mixed woodland extend along much of the length of the island. A line of skerries extend from the south of the island into the Sound of Jura.
