Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse

Located a mile (1.6 km) north of Tobermory in NE Mull, on a small island at the entrance to the Sound of Mull, Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse was built in 1857 by David Stevenson (1815-86) and his younger brother Thomas Stevenson (1818-87). The lighthouse comprises a white-painted masonry tower, 18.9m (62 feet) in height, which is connected to the shore station by a walkway. It was automated in 1960 and is now operated remotely from the Northern Lighthouse Board Headquarters in Edinburgh. The lightkeepers' cottages are now privately owned.
