Drumochter Summit

(Druimuachdar Summit)

Drumochter (or Druimuachdar) Summit represents the highest point of the Pass of Drumochter, on the border between Highland Council Area and Perth & Kinross, 5 miles (8 km) south of Dalwhinnie. It represents the highest point on the British railway network, at 452m (1484 feet), and is also the highest point on the A9 Trunk Road, reaching 462m (1516 feet). At one time, two engines were required to haul trains to the top and the speed was sufficiently slow that many of the passengers would alight from the train and walk to the summit.
