Millais Viewpoint

A public art installation occupying an elevated site in Bellwood Riverside Park in Perth which literally frames the view across the River Tay, Millais Viewpoint was installed in 1997, the work of English sculptor Tim Shutter (b. 1954). The red sandstone sculpture comprises two L-shaped sections of a picture frame, decorated with leaves honouring Sir John Everett Millais' famous painting Autumn Leaves (1856). The view includes the Kinnoull Aisle and churchyard, where Millais' wife Effie Gray and their son, George, are buried. In the foreground, a draped chest with artist's palette acts as a seat for the viewer.
