Arran Creamery

(Torrylinn Creamery)

Taking milk from local herds of Friesian cows, the Arran Creamery (also known as Torrylinn Creamery) is located in the hamlet of Kilmory in S Arran. Built by the Milk Marketing Board in 1946 to make a Cheddar-type of cheese known as Arran Dunlop, it is now operated by First Milk, Britain's largest dairy farmer co-operative. It remains the home of the award-winning Isle of Arran Dunlop Cheddar, still produced using traditional methods. The Dunlop style makes the cheese creamier, more subtly flavoured and less acidic than traditional Cheddar, formed through a combination of the handcrafted production methods, the distinctive rich Arran milk and the island's volcanic soil and high rainfall.

The creamery has a small visitor centre which includes a viewing gallery overlooking the production area.
