Greenock No.8 Reservoir

(Auxiliary Reservoir No.8)

A tiny reservoir at Overton on the slopes behind Greenock in Inverclyde, Greenock No.8 Reservoir (also known as Auxiliary Reservoir No.8) is the closest to the town of six balancing reservoirs built by engineer Robert Thom (1774 - 1847). Retained by earth embankments, is was built 1825-27 for the Shaws Water Company to maintain water levels in the Greenock Cut and power industry in the town. It is now owned by Scottish Water.
