Loch Olavat

(Loch Olabhat)

A small loch in the N of the island of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Loch Olavat (Gael: Loch Olabhat) receives a stream from Ben Scolpaig to the west and drains into Vallay Sound. The loch contains small island, Eilean Dòmhnuill, which is joined to the shore by a causeway and is thought to represent Scotland's oldest crannog dating from 2800-3200 BC.
