Howwood Railway Station

(Coille an Dail)

Howwood Railway Station (referred to in Gaelic as Coille an Dail) is situated on the northwest side of the village on the Ayrshire Coast Line, between Lochwinnoch Station and Milliken Park Station. A temporary station opened in 1840, to be followed by a more permanent successor in 1876 but this station closed in 1955, even before the Beeching cuts. However an unmanned halt re-opened in 2001, which is operated by ScotRail, and it now serves 48,000 passengers per year (2012).
