Craigend Water Tower

A massive concrete structure on Otterswick Place, the Craigend Water Tower represents a prominent landmark in NE Glasgow, despite being dwarfed by its neighbour the Garthamlock Water Tower. Water is pumped from Loch Katrine into the cylindrical structure and released into homes under the effects of gravity. The structure was built for Glasgow Corporation in 1958 to the designs of F.A. Macdonald and Partners. The Craigend and Garthamlock towers were illuminated to celebrate Glasgow's reign as the European City of Culture, again between 1999 and 2003 as part of a community arts project, and on various occasions since. Both towers are now owned by Scottish Water.
