A rolling summit in NE Dumfries and Galloway, Upper Barnsnaught rises to 310m (1017 feet) a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west of Barnsnaught (which is 13m / 43 feet lower) and 2 miles (3 km) east northeast of Holehouse Hill. Copland's Monument is located on its northern slopes.
