The Covenanters' Monument (also known as the Skeoch Hill Monument) represents a granite and marble obelisk on a stepped base located on the slopes of Bishop Forest Hill in Dumfries and Galloway, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) northwest of the summit of Skeoch Hill and 2 miles (3 km) north northwest of Shawhead. Adjacent are the Communion Stones, four parallel rows of flat-lying stones associated with an outdoor service (or conventicle) held here in Summer 1678 by ministers expelled from the established church. More than 3000 Covenanters are said to have taken communion at this service, led by Rev. John Welsh (c.1624-81). Erected in 1870, approximately 4.6m (15 feet) in height and surmounted by a representation of a communion cup, the monument is dedicated to Welsh and his fellow Covenanters. It was B-listed in 1986.
