A modest Iron-Age hill-fort located on a rocky knoll overlooking the west coast of Iona in Argyll and Bute, Dun Bhuirg (or Dun Cul Bhuirg) is situated 1¼ miles (2 km) west northwest of Baile Mor. Thought to date from around 100 BC to 200 AD, this is the only hill-fort on the island. Its position gives natural protection, but it was further defended by banked enclosure, sections of a which remain visible. Excavations in 1957-59, and again in 1969, revealed the foundations of a small circular house with a central stone-built hearth, together with pottery sherds.
