Auchness Hill

An elongated hogback on the left bank of the River Bladnoch in The Machars of Galloway, Auchness Hill rises to 42m (137 feet) a half-mile (1 km) northwest of Spittal and 2¼ miles (3.5 km) southeast of Kirkcowan. Auchness Hill is one of a number of drumlins in this area and is aligned NNW-SSE suggesting the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet. There are other Auchness Hills nearby, which are also a drumlins; one just a mile (1.9 km) to the west and the other 11 miles (18 km) to the south southeast.
