An elongated oval hillock in The Machars of Galloway, Dernafuel rises to 102m (334 feet) to the west of Knocketie Moss and 3½ miles (5.5 km) west southwest of Kirkcowan. This is one of a number of drumlins in this area and is aligned NNE-SSW indicating the direction of ice flow of an ancient glacier.
