Cairn Hill

A summit in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, Cairn Hill rises to just beyond 80m (262 feet) a quarter-mile (0.4 km) east of Ravenstone Castle and 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Whithorn. There is a patch of woodland on its summit. This is part of an extensive drumlin field and had its principal axis aligned ENE-WSW suggesting the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet which once covered this area. There are several other summits named Cairn Hill hereabouts; the nearest being 2 miles (3.2 km) to the east northeast and 2¼ miles (3.5 km) to the south.
