A broad summit in The Machars of SW Dumfries and Galloway, Barr Hill rises to 105m (344 feet) 1¼ miles (2 km) south of Newton Stewart, overlooking the River Cree to the east. Barrhill Wood extends over the northern slopes of the hill, including a northern summit which supports a mobile phone transmitter mast. There is another Barr Hill on the opposite side of The Machars peninsula, 13 miles (21 km) to the south southwest.
