Thorny Hill

A drumlin in Dumfries and Galloway, Thorny Hill rises to just beyond 64m (209 feet) on the right bank of the Tarf Water, a half-mile (0.8 km) south southwest of Kirkcowan. This is part of an extensive drumlin field scattered across The Machars, with its principal axis aligned NNE-SSW suggesting the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet. This hill should not be confused with another Thorny Hill located 5½ miles (9 km) to the east southeast, also lying next to a Barney Hill.
