Galawhistle Wind Farm

Galawhistle Wind Farm extends over Hareshaw Hill, Wedder Hill and Arrarat Hill on the boundary between East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire, 4 miles / 6.5 km west of Douglas. Construction began in 2015, to the west of the existing Hagshaw Hill Wind Farm, and the farm comprises 22 Vestas V90 turbines, each rated at 3 MW, providing 66 MW of electricity to the grid. The turbines are either 110m (360 feet) or 120m (394 feet) in height, with 90m (295 feet) diameter blades. Opened in 2017, the farm includes 6 miles / 10 km of access roads and is owned and operated by Edinburgh-based Ventient Energy.

A community fund receives £120,000 annually (rising with inflation) over the operating life of the wind farm and provides grants to local community-based groups and organisations.
