Penninghame Pond

A small artificial lake on the course of the Castle Stewart Burn in NW Dumfries and Galloway, the Penninghame Pond was established in the 19th C. to provide water to the power the sizeable threshing and saw mill which occupied the site of what is now Penninghame Home Farm. The pond later provided water for the farm and dairy, and supported a population of ducks. Today, the public are encouraged to enjoy the pleasant landscape via a network of paths which pass through the woodland that surrounds the pond. It contains several little islands.
