Barchessie

An oval hillock which represents a drumlin in NW Dumfries and Galloway, Barchessie rises to 109m (357 feet) surrounded by the Galloway Forest, on the left bank of the River Bladnoch, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) southeast of Knowe. Composed of glacial till, this is part of an extensive drumlin field, which spreads to the south and was deposited beneath an ancient ice sheet which once covered this area.
