Loch of Cree

A flat section of the River Cree in NW Dumfries and Galloway, the Loch of Cree extends south from the confluence of the Cree and the Water of Minnoch at Larg, to Cut Island, just above Penninghame House, 3½ miles (5.5 km) north northwest of Newton Stewart. Its elevation barely changes from 30m (100 feet) above sea level along a length of 2½ miles (4 km). The loch gave its name to the Royal Navy frigate HMS Loch Cree launched in 1944.
