Edingham Castle

Edingham Castle is a substantial ruin located within a low dry-stone wall to the north of the B793 road, 1¼ miles (2 km) north northeast of Dalbeattie. Built in the early 16th C. for the Livingstones of Little Airds, it comprises a rectangular tower-house which once rose to three storeys but still includes a barrel-vaulted basement. The entrance is at the northwest, leading to a wheel-stair within an external wall that varies between 0.9m and 1.2m (3 and 4 feet) in thickness. The structure was B-listed in 1990.
