Burnside Railway Station

A suburban halt on the Newton Branch of the Cathcart Circle Line, Burnside Railway Station (referred to as Taobh an Uillt in Gaelic) lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) northeast of Burnside and a mile (1.5 km) south southeast of Rutherglen in South Lanarkshire. Opened on the Lanarkshire & Ayrshire Railway in 1904, which was controlled by the Caledonian Railway, the station comprises an island platform. Now operated by ScotRail, Burnside is staffed part-time and is the busiest station on the Newton branch, with 276,012 passengers per annum (2016-17). It is preceded by Croftfoot Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the west, and followed by Kirkhill, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the east.
