A suburban railway station in North Glasgow, Gilshochill (Gael: Cnoc Ghille-Seoch) lies on the Maryhill Line, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west northwest of Lambhill and 2½ miles (4 km) north of the city centre. This station opened in 1993 and was originally known as Lambhill but changed its name to better reflect its situation in 1998. This was one of several stations opened to permit the reintroduction of suburban passenger services on a line (opened in 1858) which otherwise simply connected Glasgow Queen Street Station to the West Highland Line. This line was once part of the Glasgow, Dumbarton, and Helensburgh Railway.
Now operated by ScotRail, Gilshochill is unstaffed and is used by 95,998 passengers per annum (2009-10). It is preceded by Possilpark & Parkhouse Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the south southeast, and followed by Summerston, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the west northwest.
