Newton Railway Station (Gael: Am Baile Ùr) lies on the Hamilton Circle Line (part of the Argyle Line suburban rail network) and is the terminus of the Newton Branch of the Cathcart Circle Line, in Cambuslang, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) east southeast of Westburn and a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Flemington in South Lanarkshire. The original Newton Station opened in 1849, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east, on the Clydesdale Junction Railway. The current station opened in 1873 and is now operated by ScotRail. Newton Railway Station is staffed part-time and passenger numbers have grown steadily from 440,916 per annum in 2009-10 to 653,312 in 2016-17. All westbound services eventually reach Glasgow Central Station, while eastbound trains reach Motherwell and many proceed onwards.
It is preceded by Blantyre Railway Station, 2¼ miles (3.5 km) to the southeast, and followed on the Argyle Line by Cambuslang, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the west, and by Kirkhill Railway Station, a similar distance to the west southwest, on the Cathcart Circle Line.
