Springburn Railway Station

A busy suburban railway station in N Glasgow, Springburn (referred to as Allt an Fhuarain in Gaelic) serves both the North Clyde Line and Cumbernauld Line and is located in the centre of Springburn, a half-mile (1 km) north northeast of Sighthill. This station opened in 1887 on a branch of the City of Glasgow Union Railway which had was constructed twelve years earlier to carry freight. Over the years, passenger services were developed to a variety of destinations. The station now comprises four platforms; two serving as the terminus of a branch of the North Clyde Line, with two through-platforms on the Cumbernauld Line. The preceding station is Barnhill on the North Clyde Line. The Cumbernauld Line loops around Barnhill, from Stepps Railway Station, 3½ miles (5.5 km) to the east, and the station following Springburn is Glasgow Queen Street, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the south southwest, which is reached by the Cowlairs Chord that now forms the southern section of a complex triangular junction. Operated by ScotRail and staff part-time, use of this station has grown steading from 307,576 passengers per annum (2009-10) to 431,186 (2016-17).
