Witch Wood

An area of woodland in North Lanarkshire, Witch Wood lies immediately to the northeast of Townhead. Along with the Witchwood Ponds (known locally as Big Tarry Pond and Wee Tarry Pond) and a wildflower meadow, the area forms a local nature reserve extending to 5.5 ha (13.6 acres). Fox and roe deer frequent the woods, while the ponds support occasional kingfisher, dragonflies in the summer and fish such as perch, pike and roach which make them popular with local anglers.

The woodland was once part of the Gartsherrie Estate and lies to the north northwest of the Coatbridge Freightliner Terminal, which occupies the site of the former Gartsherrie House. The area is now managed by North Lanarkshire Council.
