Saughtree Railway Station

A disused halt on the former Border Counties Railway, Saughtree Railway Station is located ¾ mile (1.3 km) north of the hamlet of Saughtree in the Scottish Borders. The station opened with this section of the line in 1862, connecting to the Border Union Railway (Waverley Line) at Riccarton Junction, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the west. This remote line was never busy. It eventually closed to passengers in 1956 and to freight two years later.

The station buildings were restored as a private home and visitor accommodation 2006-09 and remarkably around 600m (2000 feet) of new track has been laid, including a passing loop through the station and a siding into an engine shed created from a pair of railway cottages. The owners run a Ruston diesel shunting engine, two wagons and a guard's van along this section of track.
