Sibbald Walk

A modern close and piazza on the north side of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh's Old Town, Sibbald Walk was created in 2017 as the southern entrance to the £240-million New Waverley development, which saw the former bus depot on New Street converted into housing, offices, shops and hotel accommodation. Located between New Street and Old Tolbooth Wynd, it was named in honour of Sir Robert Sibbald (1641 - 1722), physician and geographer, who was jointly responsible for a 'physic garden' created in the grounds of Holyrood Palace in 1670 and another even closer, at the eastern end of Waverley Railway Station, six years later.
