Duchally Power Station

A small and entirely automated hydro-electric power station located in the remote upper reaches of Glen Cassley in Sutherland, Duchally forms part of the Shin Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. Built into a weir which collects water from the River Cassley and several aqueducts, it generates a maximum of 0.45 MW, depending on river flow, using two small turbines. These turbines are rated at 325 kW and 125 kW respectively. The main purpose of the headpond behind the weir is to supply water to the Cassley Power Station via a tunnel to the east. Duchally opened in 1959 and is owned and operated by SSE Plc (Scottish and Southern Electricity), a privatised utility company based in Perth.
