Five Sisters Business Park

(Westwood Industrial Park)

An industrial park located to the south of the B7015 road in West Lothian, the Five Sisters Business Park (or Westwood Industrial Park) lies in the shadow of the Five Sisters bing, a mile (1.5 km) northwest of West Calder. This was the site of the Westwood Oil Works, the last of the facilities to be constructed to extract oil from shale in West Lothian. It was built in 1941 to ensure security of supply from home-produced oil during World War II. This was also the last to close, surviving until the early 1960s. Companies involved in the construction industry operate from this park, while Forestry and Land Scotland (the former Forestry Commission) have an office here. Some of the industrial units occupy buildings constructed as part of the former oil works.
