A tiny lochan is surrounded by peat cuttings on the plain that extends east from Laggan Bay in the centre of the island of Islay, Loch na Maolaig lies next to the A846 road, a mile (1.8 km) southeast of Islay Airport. It extends to only 0.5 ha (1.2 acres).
