Horse Hill

A triangular summit on the Threave Estate in the S of Dumfries and Galloway, Horse Hill rises above Carlingwark Moss to a height of 66m (216 feet) a half-mile (1 km) west southwest of Castle Douglas. This is a particularly well-defined drumlin, one of a number of drumlins in this area, deposited under an ancient ice sheet and in this case aligned NNW-SSE indicating the direction of flow. The A75 Trunk Road passes immediately to the west, while there is another Horse Hill 2 miles (3 km) to the northeast.
