Port Hill

An elongated little summit in S Dumfries and Galloway, Port Hill rises to 54m (177 feet) on the left bank of the River Dee, 1¼ mile (2 km) west of Castle Douglas. It lies on the western edge of the Threave Estate and is interpreted as a drumlin, one of a number in this area, deposited under an ancient ice sheet. It is aligned NNW-SSE which represents the direction of ice flow.
